Wedding at Belle Meade Plantation 10/15/16

On October 15 a trio of us convened to provide the music for the wedding ceremony of Alexandra and Graham at the Belle Meade Plantation.  The ceremony took place in the yard in back of the mansion past what used to be a maze.  Highlights of the ceremony included the presence of a well-behaved “ring dog” who performed his duties without a fuss.  Then after a lovely ceremony we helped kick off the celebration to come with our rendition of “Happy” (from the movie, “Despicable Me 2) as the newlyweds made their way back down the aisle.

After the ceremony we entertained at the cocktail hour with a mix of standards (including a request for “Always” by the bride’s mother) and more contemporary tunes.  Lucky us, we got to sample some of the food while everyone entered the Carriage House for the cake cutting and first dances.

And finally, congratulations to Alexandra and Graham and their families.  Many wishes to them for a long and happy life together!

Wedding at Belle Meade Plantation May 16, 2015

Meanwhile over in West Nashville at the Belle Meade Plantation Hilari was busy getting married to Grant in the garden behind the mansion.  I was originally looking forward to playing their wedding until necessary surgery intervened because they had chosen some really fun (for the musicians anyway) classical music for the prelude.  Selections included Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, Mozart’s Turkish March originally written for piano, a Handel Harp Concerto.  A trio consisting of Julianna Waller, Tammy Hobbs and Gary Tussing did justice to the masters’ works.

For the processionals Hilari chose Vivaldi’s “Spring” first movement for the mothers and then the third movement for the wedding party.  She chose for her entrance Handel’s “Hornpipe” from the Water Music.  At the close of the ceremony the newlyweds made their way back down the aisle to the exciting Handel “Allegro from Solomon”.

The trio reconvened at the area between the stable and the carriage house to play for cocktails and dinner.  They played music from all different eras to cover the generations in attendance including Ellington’s “Take the A Train” to Ben Rector’s “White Dress”.  During dinner the trio played “old school” love songs such as “When I Fall In Love” and “At Last”.

Congratulations to Hilari and Grant along with their families!  Many wishes for a long and happy life together.

2/21/15 Wedding at Belle Meade Plantation

February 21 found Silver Strings as a quartet at the Belle Meade Plantation playing for the nuptials of Becca and Stephen in the stable behind the carriage house.  The stable was lit up with festive lights creating a warm glow over the scene of the impending vows.  The rainy weather didn’t begin to dampen the spirits of the guests who were treated to the fun music, “Fare Thee Well” (Mumford and Isaac), for the entrance of the wedding party and the beautiful bride herself.  At the end of the ceremony the newly minted Mr. and Mrs., along with the wedding party, recessed to “Home”, another fun tune by Ed Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

Congratulations and best wishes to Becca and Stephen and their families!

6/21/14 Wedding at Belle Meade Plantation

On June 21, 2014 Van married his sweetheart, Mandy, in a lovely ceremony at Belle Meade Plantation.  The weather cooperated but just barely, spitting a little rain on us shortly before we were to begin the prelude music.  The guests were seated facing the mansion and were able to see Mandy’s face as she approached the love of her life to the beautiful “Canon in D”.

After the ceremony everyone made their way to the Carriage House where the Silver Strings quartet entertained with a selection of contemporary rock as per Van’s request (yes, the string quartet plays rock and even enjoys it) through the cocktail hour and dinner.  At one point we did ask a couple of the grandmothers what they would like to hear and they gratefully asked for “The Way You Look”.  We aim to please.

Meredith Zeller of Bridal Blueprints was the very cool and unflappable coordinator.  We so appreciate the planners/coordinators who know when to send the members of the wedding party to what music.

May Mandy and Van have many happy years together.
